CHESTNUT HILL:
A TRADITION OF HOUSING EXCELLENCE

From the map's introduction:

Following the Depression and World War II, the tradition of housing design excellence created by leading architects continued as Chestnut Hill prospered as a neighborhood of choice. Unlike the earlier planned development, however, houses were now commissioned by individuals to create unique, contemporary homes on open tracts of lands and small parcels throughout Chestnut Hill, often in areas where the nineteenth century mansions were torn down. In addition to the most notable architects of the past fifty years, Louis I. Kahn, Robert Venturi, and Romaldo Giurgola, numerous others are represented on this map guide illustrating their Modern, International Style, Post Modern, and Contemporary contributions. Together, they present a diverse group of distinctive houses that continue the architectural design excellence that has been cultivated for over one hundred years.
